5 stars for the topic and representation of the deaf community, which I learned more about as a result of reading this book. Unfortunately, 2.5 stars for the writing style. To me, it was disjointed and I found the continousl change of character points of view (especially some characters who seemed incidental to the primary storyline) to be distracting. I felt it could have been more effective pared down to February and Charlie's points of view (which I thought it was initially, but then we were given chapters with so many characters' thoughts and it started to feel like an 'everything but the kitchen sink' situation). But I'm glad I read it.
