Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang

Woweeee now this is how you write a standalone fantasy story, I have been completely obsessed with this and I'm gutted it came to an end. I'm actually struggling to write a review for this because I pretty much enjoyed everything about it

The character development is 10 out of 10. They're both from different backgrounds and they're facing their own struggles but from the moment they meet they work so so well together. Their relationship feels natural and you really feel for them both with what they're going through, what they've been through and what they're both trying to achieve

The plot is perfectly paced with excellent writing and I had a difficult time putting it down, it's one of those books you will find hard not to read in a few sittings. The story is layered focusing on many issues but they're all so tactfully approached that they felt true to life and it helped drive the story in this brilliantly built world

The magic system is unique and creative and holds a big purpose to the plot and it was interesting to read and learn about. I loved how the magic system is explained and doesn't just exist, it has consequences and it's more of a skill that needs to be learnt and the revelations behind it kept me intrigued

The ending left me with all the feels, it was very bittersweet but I thought it was perfectly done and I highly recommend for any fantasy lover to read this book
