Eragon by Christopher Paolini
4.0
So 4 stars to Eragon, a book I have read THREE times , but not since 2007.
Is it repetitive and does it rely heavily on fantasy tropes? Sure. I think the thing that stands out to me most of all is how cut-and-dry Eragon’s thought process is, and how much of his choices are spelled out directly. And also, how often (though actually LESS than I remember) he was unconscious simply to move the plot forward. But other than the inexperienced tone/plot, this is a SOLID book, solid understandable fantasy and world, that is also mainly a Journey and i do Love a Journey. I love it.
Whatever faults there are in it, they’re sort of overshadowed by the memories I have of this book, and of my dad reading a chapter of this book to me every night. So as it has been with me re-reading my adolescent favorites: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
