Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

5.0

I'm not usually a fan of the classics and while it took me about 15-20% to get into this book, I ended up REALLY enjoying it. Psychological thriller for sure - some unsavory characters and motives that keep you guessing set against the old money high society in Cornwall - maybe first half of the 20th century, but isn't really established. I thought this would be a boring story but ended up keeping me on the edge of my seat. AND SO MANY QUESTIONS! 1. Why wasn't Mrs. Danvers dismissed as soon as Rebecca was out of the picture? 2. What the FREAK is wrong with Favell? I mean, I guess you have to have an antagonist - but this guy is completely arrogant and entitled and I kinda wanted to kill him off myself. 3. Was there something going on bw Mrs. Danvers and Rebecca?? Her adoration is obsession/white single female level out there. Would make for a good book club discussion, and reads easily. Glad I finally read this one! Encourage me to pick up Daphne du Maurier's Jamaica Inn sooner rather than later.
