True Grit: American Prints from 1900 to 1950 by Alexander Nemerov, Stephanie Schrader, James Glisson

5.0

A great series of prints with three fascinating essays that cover different aspects of early American printmaking. There is a great essay on the role of gender in American prints, another one focused on the skyscraper, and a final one on the influence of George Bellows on Edward Hopper. The first two essays were superb and the last one was thought-provoking though I felt sometimes stretched the formers influence on the later.

I felt like the authors and the exhibition (which I didn't see) did a great job of mixing in the famous along with the relatively more obscure. The images in this book are simply vibrant and wonderful!!!
