Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan

4.0

I heard that this is a gut-wrenching read and my experience was the same.

This Kennedy Ryan is a random pick from my 2024 BBW haul that I want to finish before the year ends and the novel revolves recently-divorced exes Yasmen and Josiah as they navigate their individual and co-parenting spaces.

Second chance rarely works for me but this one hits different because of the couple’s backstory which I will not mention because that backstory is essential to the reading experience. But what can I say is that in terms of fiction novels being realistic, Before I Let You Go is there at the top.

I like how the author slowly revealed Yasmen and Josiah’s respective view of their flashback. It makes me want to read more chapter to know what really happened then that led to them parting ways.

I also like the voice of the main characters since both were presented in a raw and honest way. Both Yasmen and Josiah garnered baggages from the divorce and their individual thought process showed vulnerability as they tried to remain connected as co-parents and how they handle their feelings while also acknowledging the hurt that they left to their ex.

There’s a lot to unpack and I highly suggest for you to check content warning (stillbirth, loss of loved one, discussion of complicated grief, depression, and passive suicidal ideation.)

Overall, this book is a heart-wrenching read. 4stars!
