While a realistic depiction of a slice of the trans and kink community, this book seemed to record all the worst parts. I only finished the book because I kept hoping Click would find a better ending. A better daddy, better friends, and it didn’t happen. Maybe some of my issue is simply that it’s from the 2000s and a bit outdated. Throughout the whole thing I couldn’t figure out if Click being unlikeable was the author’s deliberate choice as ze was young and immature or a failure to come up with likeable features.
While overall disappointing from a plot and character perspective, it is a good book if you’d like to see a realistic snapshot back into the young 2000s Portland queer punk leather scene. I do think it’s existence as a piece of history is important.
