Sin With Me by Haley Tyler, Bex Dawn
4.0
“Without the golden sun to show us how bright the world can really be, night would cease to exist."
This book might not be for everyone, but it was a heartbreakingly special and remarkable emotional journey.
Please check the trigger warnings before reading as it touches on several dark and intense themes and depicts difficult to read scenes.
I had a hard time dealing with Eve's naiveté and immaturity because, although it was consistent, it seemed selective. But, that's what makes her a compelling example of the trauma she endured. It's not until she experiences life outside of Divinity that we grasp how sheltered and ignorant she is about the world. I'm very proud of her growth and happy to see her learn what a healthy relationship is and how to be in one.
Roman had my heart bleeding from beginning to end. He's such a precious and tortured soul, but I can't ignore his assholish actions. They're not excused, even though they're understood. His trauma runs incredibly deep, and reading about how it affected him growing up and how he learned to deal with his demons wasn't easy, but I'm equally proud of him as I am of Eve. When he realized Jane chose him, always had him in her heart because to her he was family, I think I broke alongside him.
I just wish I could put them all in therapy! That's absolutely what they need, and I'm sad that seeking therapy wasn't something we saw them pursue in the end.
I loved all the secondary characters, the found family.
Oli had me in stitches with all her comments and comebacks, she still felt like a mystery at the end, and I'm not mad about it.
Kon and Chance have my heart, and I wish we could have read more about them.
This was very well written. Without the penmanship, this story wouldn't have come alive as it needed to. As gut-wrenching as it was to read this, stories like these are essential. They expose hidden problems, provide solace to survivors, raise awareness, and have the power to ignite motivation for positive change when confronting difficult subjects like religious indoctrination, grooming, emotional and physical abuse, sexual abuse, and many more that aren't easily approached and talked about.
