i had my expectations way too high at the beginning of this book since i've heard so many great thing about it, so it didn't quite meet the bar i set. the characters are so lovable though and the plot is genuinely unique; can't wait to read the second one.

what the hell. my favourite book of all time. and i'm not joking when i say that. on my first read, it took me a couple days for it to sink in before i placed it in my favourites. a few months and then it was my favourite of all time. my reread only makes my love stronger.
this world is incredible. leigh bardugo really did that with the grishaverse. the way the magic system works is so unique and it really left me wanting to get back into it again and again. but what i love most about this book is the characters. i love the dregs with all my heart. every single one of them adds something to the team until you get a vast and diverse cast all with beautiful and tragic backstories. their dynamic is flawless.
kaz brekker. my favourite character of all time. his backstory is one of the best written things i've ever read; it physically hurts me whenever i read it. the passages are so raw and heartbreaking and i feel kaz's pain and revulsion like my own. and his growth? bliss. inej has a beautiful backstory as well and i'm glad that's she's not a typical weak female, she doesn't wait for anyone to save her because she saves herself. of course everyone else had a nice arc as well. nina was learning how to overcome her guilt. matthias with his anger and hatred. jesper with his father and gambling. and wylan... well he was just learning to be a dreg so there's not much... yet.
and the plot? it's a heist, what more do you want? it has all the twists and turns and scheming that i love, and a full thought out plan. at seventeen years old, kaz brekker really did that.
all in all, six of crows (and crooked kingdom) is/are leigh's best book(s) to date. from the characters to intricate plot, it's truly a masterpiece. and i love it. maybe more than i should.
