Danse Macabre by Paul van Loon

3.5

A slightly alternative take on the story of the Efteling theme park ride. I overall liked it, however I think the main thing that bothered me was the fact that the twist at the ending was obvious from pretty much the first chapter.

If there had been more buildup and subtle hints rather than this blunt, in-your-face "this character who you think is the bad guy is definitely the bad guy" I think I'd have liked it more.

Also it might just be me but I honestly wish this book was written from the POV of Otto and Virginie rather than some random kids who don't appear in the actual ride's backstory at all. Their story seems more interesting to me but I guess the Efteling wanted some kid protags for the younger audience to relate to.
