The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

5.0

Embarrassing as it may be, I knew nothing about the plot or premise of this book when I started it, and it made the entire read far more enjoyable than I think it would have been otherwise. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if I picked this book up again in a few years and read it through with a new appreciation for all that I would know about the plot going in.

It's a clever idea and supremely well-executed. I felt like I needed to closely read every sentence because each word was packed with meaning, which was a fabulous way to read a book.

The characters, the relationships, the plot points are so intentionally crafted and so fabulously complex. The message is seemingly obvious, but understated and significant. Outer beauty is ephemeral, but our actions have impacts that go far beyond our lifetimes.

This book is a classic for a reason. It should be read widely!
