Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

5.0

FAVORITE READ OF THE YEAR ALERT!

This book had EVERYTHING I love and enjoy in a novel.

The pace is definitely slow but I’m a huge fan of author who knows to take their time. And Moreno-Garcia mastered it: she puts her character and her reader in a slowly uncomfortable and horrific situation. The settings is pretty common in many ways (the manor, the isolated cousin, the creepy old white family) but I can assure you that it’s nothing like you’ve ever read before.

The writing style is simply extraordinary in an highly visual way and I felt like watching a movie multiple times. More than its own plot, Moreno-Garcia added multiple elements about Mexican history, culture and folklore making her book even more impactful.

A masterpiece.
