The Bullet Swallower by Elizabeth Gonzalez James

3.0

This book started off very strong, but the middle became a bit boring for me. The summary had me expecting more action from the 1964 plot line, and I wished we saw more from Jaime. I like the idea of adding magical realism to the plot, but at some points it almost didn't make sense and distracted me from the story itself. This book is fairly short - 250 pages - but some of the chapters just felt so long, at least to me. I tend to like fast-paced action books, and some of the scenes in this one just slowed it down. If you're a fan of westerns and descriptive prose, you might like this one.
