I loved the audio performance and con artist take on the Cinderella story. The initial snark of the protagonist’s narration and pacing of the story made it very fun and zippy.
The influence of “lustre” on consent was uncomfortable and I don’t know that I felt the first person POV sufficiently examined/explored that beyond stating the transgressor’s guilt.
I sometimes felt it was too ambitious: colonialism, empire, religion, progress, individualism, collectivism — all in what I thought would be a romantasy retelling. Sometimes I liked those commentaries, and other times I felt it encumbered versus aided the story/pacing.
As to the romance, it was too slow of a burn for me (75%) despite enjoying the banter!
