Hmm I’m having very conflicting feelings about this book.. On the one hand I still really love certain elements about the book and the writing but on the other hand,,, I had to skim my way through this book to finish it :/ I think the first book had a conflict of its own that climaxed and got solved in the first book and now in this second book a whole new conflict happened and it was a very political conflict which I’m not a fan of AT ALL. Literally had headache trying to mull over the conflict and due to the multiple pov’s who all had different insights on this conflict I had difficulties making sense of what I thought was the right thing to do which I didn’t enjoy at all. Also, the characters were veeery inconsistent. They literally went back and forth and back and forth and more often then not completely changed personalities every other chapter which was confusing and extremely annoying. Not only were the characters a bit unconvincing, the relationship between the characters were more often than not very flat and had 0 depth. The only character I love is Roën (and Zélie maybe 80% of the time) he has so much character depth and I mean I’m a sucker for a good sexy damaged criminal/pirate/mob leader who turns to the good side.

Might read the third book, just to see how it ends bc I must admit this series does have something appealing to it and I’m curious how Tomi is gonna wrap all of this up. I do hope the third book comes with a lil character guide bc I’ve lost track of who is who as soon as the rebels became part of the book
