Strange Adventures by Tom King, Mitch Gerads, Evan Doc Shaner

5.0

Really really thoroughly enjoyed this. I loved the use of two distinct art styles to represent past and present and to visualize the theme of reality vs. fiction. There is commentary on the reality of violence in war, the nature of true Justice, and the muddiness of heroism. The use of a silver age sci-fi character like Adam Strange furthers the deconstruction of the genre, emphasizing the “fiction” side of “science fiction.” It’s an updated and mature look at a classic sort of story. If I were still in my course on graphic novels I would certainly want to be talking about this.
