The prologue is one of the funniest pieces of writing I've ever read. The rest of the book wasn't as good, I didn't think; it didn't make it to the level of Empire Falls. Maybe it's just that the academic setting wasn't as appealing to me as the small-town setting of the earlier novel.

It's going back to 1/2 price books now....
