Book 2 in the Throne of Glass series picks up directly after the events of book 1. I read book 1 several months earlier and did not remember a single thing that happened, which was ultimately fine because this book basically retold all the events several times.

This is also a highly character driven book. There’s basically no plot at all for the first half of the book outside of Celaena just running around Rifthold and generally gathering information that doesn’t really amount to much. Then something big happens a little over halfway through that then drives the real plot for the rest of the book.

What I Liked About This Book
👑 Getting to know Celaena a bit better
👑 Dorian got a lot more interesting
👑 Fleetfoot
👑 The ending

What I Didn’t Like About This Book
👑 Chaol (I find him super dull and he even annoyed me in Heir of Fire)
👑 Dorian’s jealousy (maybe it’s because I know who Celaena ends up with since before starting the series but neither Dorian and Chaol seemed to make sense with her to me)
👑 Lack of plot
👑 (SPOILER) Death of the single character of color so far presented in the series
👑 The fact that Celaena gets all her info on magic from a book literally called “The Walking Dead” but then is surprised when there’s a walking dead person 🥴
👑 The king has been in the secret passageways and the tomb and knows they exist but everyone continues to use them like they’re some safe haven from him 🥴🥴🥴
