Der Nachtzirkus by Erin Morgenstern

This is the first longer book I read in years and it's beautiful. The writing is fantastic - no chapter in this story feels arbitrary, everything ties together and the vivid descriptions allow you to completely emerse yourself in this fascinating world.

However, I expected more of the reasoning behind a central event in the book and the ending fell a bit flat for me. One of the main characters that I was supposed to like I absolutely detested, although I can't really say why, which took from the joy of reading the book a little bit.

All in all, the positive aspects absolutely outweigh the negatives. This is one of the most unique and beautiful stories I've ever read and I'm grateful that this was requested to me.
