Boy in the Barn: Journey of Triumph Over Horrific Child Abuse, Sexual Abuse, and PTSD by Kurt B. Ellis
4.0
This is probably the toughest listen I've ever had. This book was so difficult to listen to, the first chapter goes straight in with the most descriptive brutal rape I've ever heard and I knew the triggers going in, but I really wasn't prepared... But after chapter 1, there are then 8 chapters of back story of the lands and Queen Victoria etc. that I honestly didn't understand the purpose of and it took until Chapter 10 to get back to the actual story again.
It was rough from that point forward and I don't think I've ever hated anyone as much as I hated Rusty and I really wanted bad things to happen to him, which isn't like me at all!!
I didn't enjoy the narrator if I'm honest. I know the book is written by a Southern American and it makes sense that the narrator has that accent, but it wasn't always as easy to follow as a result.
4/5 stars for me, I definitely recommend this book but you MUST check your triggers before you start.
