I was so emotionally invested in these characters. We literally saw them growing up. And oh what a life.
I am slowly realizing that one of the niche genres that I really resonate with is seeing people after a traumatic event. Seeing how the cope and what it turns them into.
The trauma in this book was personal, it was Patch who was taken after all, but it also spread to so many in the town. Not just to their connection to Patch, but also their connections to each other.
The story was written expertly enough that I was always guessing as to what had really happened but never quite got it right. I was texting my friend (who recommended it) my updated theories every couple of chapters. This would make a great buddy read.
