This being the first book I have read by this author I wasn’t really sure what to expect. This is an enemies to lovers romance. Holden Knight had some associations with the Rothschild family when he was younger and because of that he has returned to town to take over their company. Now Holden arrives mysteriously and the town is questioning who he is and what he wants. At a charity event where Holden beats Rhett out of bidding on a painting he is approached by Rowan. Rowan who I wanted to like but just couldn’t. She is determined to save her family’s company so she can run it. But, she is just running in circles because her family keeps her in the dark and does things behind her back, like selling a majority of stocks in the company. Now, Rowan is attracted to Holden but also in what I consider a bizarre plot move tells Holden all these family secrets and she doesn’t even know who he is. For someone who is so protective of this company why would she share inside secrets? Holden is really all about getting revenge for the past and as he begins to work with Rowan he begins to want her too. Now this book is a slow burn because they don’t get together until more than halfway through the book. But, Holden enjoys playing cat and mouse games with Rhett, Rowan and Chad (the COO and Rowan’s potential husband). I enjoyed the book all the twists and turns and backstabbing was so juicy, but this book ends on a cliffhanger so I must wait to see what’s going to happen next.
