How Far the Light Reaches: A Life in Ten Sea Creatures by Sabrina Imbler

emotional informative reflective medium-paced

3.5

I think my expectations going into this were too high, I leave this feeling like it was solid but not groundbreaking. The mix of memoir and science was interesting, though sometimes the links between the two felt tenuous. Everything felt very surface level, I never felt like either aspect was really explored, I wanted much more from the sea creature parts when I was reading those, then wanted more depth in their own personal reflections. The writing was usually quite nice and many parts moved me, but this doesn’t have the staying power I anticipated.
