What My Mother and I Don't Talk about: Fifteen Writers Break the Silence by Michele Filgate
5.0
A book of essays from different writers, writing as much to their mothers as to themselves. As much as I wanted to rip through these essays, I had to stop and digest (sometimes for days) after each one. Each essay was so different, an intimate portrait of their own experience. Some were physically painful to read. It leaves the reader negotiating the difference of the experience of having a mother with who a mother is- the woman herself- in her own right. I’m sure someone who has children would read these essays differently than I did. Great writing.
