Trigger warning for this book: sexual harassement, homophobia/homomisia

Patrick Ness is that kind of author that makes you go “uh?!” half the book, and then finishes the story with a flourish that makes it simply incredible.

I have to admit I did not understand the point of the Queen in the beginning. It took me a while to see the parallels between her story and Adams. I wish I could describe this novel, but I can’t. It’s both a contemporary and a fantasy story. It’s both about Adam becoming a man sure of who he is and what he wants, and about a majestic creature bringing deadly justice for a girl who couldn’t have otherwise.

I was quite uncomfortable reading about Wade. I know you’re not supposed to be comfortable with it, but I really struggled with that part, even though I can’t imagine how it is for people who have been abused and/or harassed. It needs to be told, though, if only so people can see it exists.
