This isn’t my normal kind of thing but gave it a go to try new stuff. I enjoyed the world building and the way the historical context tied into relationships between characters. The murder mystery half of the plot didn’t grab me at all and I wasn’t really interested in it at all. I feel like it would have been better without it.  It was like it was trying to fit into a few different sub genres of fiction.
