Izumi Tanaka has never quite fit in with not being American or Japanese enough. So when she finds out that her father is the Crown Prince of Japan, Izumi thinks that she will finally find that missing piece of her identity. In a whirlwind of circumstances, Izumi arrives in Japan with the goal of wanting to get to know her father but she is met with schedules, etiquette, and rules that it seems like everyone already expects her to know. What becomes painfully obvious to her is that the Royal Family doesn't think she is Japanese enough. Once again, Izumi feels like she has no place to fit in. Will Izumi find her place?
This was a cute and quirky and Princess Diaries vibes kind of novel. While the characters are young, it didn't seem like a young adult novel all the time. There were some plot holes, missed errors in editing, and undeveloped dialogue. The attraction between Akiko, her assigned body guard, and Izumi seemed rather quick and fast for the depth of their connection. It was also a classic trope of forbidden romance.
