The Secrets We Keep by Trisha Leaver
5.0
If the 2 days it took me to read this novel is not enough to tell you how much I loved it, I hope the 5 ⭐️ rating will.
Everything was perfect. Ella's misunderstanding of Maddy's life, feeling like nobody would miss her, the guilt, the lie, rediscovering herself and what she meant to her family and friends... It felt so true. Leaver managed to convey the desire of being someone else, but also the feeling of not being loved by your close ones - although it is generally so far from the truth - and the love for close family.
Ella doesn't become Maddy because she wants her life, she plays that role because she feels guilty for taking her sister from the world. For a long time, she truly believes that the world would be better off if she had been the one dying in that accident. The sadness of it all had me nearly crying throughout the book, but especially at the end, with the family reunion in the cemetery.
All I can say is BRAVO Trisha Leaver.
