Η τιμή και το χρήμα by Konstantinos Theotokis
5.0
Honor and Money by Konstantinos Theotokis published in 1914. A great book, a novella I would say at just 124 pages, about the times when families had to give dowry to the man who would marry their daughters.
It was more of a business sale contract than a marriage and it had dire consequences for the girl and often for her whole family also.
Honor and Money is a short book, but its characters carry on their shoulders the heavy social problems of the time period it represents.
It is thought-provoking with a powerful ending that even if you saw it coming you would be glad to have been right.
I had never read this before, and I feel fortunate to have been able to listen to the Greek audiobook as it is nearly impossible to find Greek books in their physical form here in the U.S.A.
