“Oh brother, this guy STINKS!”

Phew, inhabiting the mind of a 35 year old white man is exhausting. I almost dnf’d, but then I remembered how much I loved Dolly’s Ghosts so I knew I had to keep going. The ending is what makes the book, I’ve never read a book that I felt “meh” about for most of it stick the landing so well. I expected that this book would be a dual, alternating POV, but I think by letting us spend the entire book with Andy and then only seeing the relationship through Jen’s eyes at the very end was incredibly successful. Andy sucks but he’s also believable and ultimately a guy you (maybe begrudgingly) root for. I loved comparing their reasons they’re glad they are not together, I think those two parts are basically the thesis of this entire book. Was reading this all that enjoyable? Not really, this is not the POV I usually go for and I found it annoying. But does this feel like an instant romance classic that super successfully breaks down its characters? Yes! Bring on the Nora Ephron vibes movie adaptation!
