The Lost World of Adam and Eve: Genesis 2-3 and the Human Origins Debate by John H. Walton

John Walton does it again. If I were to list my top ten books of the year (2016) both of his would definitely make it. His concern in both books is to ask whether or not a Christian MUST give up evolution in order to maintain his theology about God, origins, and the inspiration of scripture. Through exegesis aided by a vast knowledge of Ancient Near Eastern source material Walton makes the case that the Bible is silent on questions of material origins. As a result, the Bible does not require any particular scientific view. Whatever ideas science offers are now free to be examined on their own merit. Not only do his books allow for genuine partnership between science and faith, they also lay open the profound theology latent with Genesis' first chapters. His books help us learn what it means to be human.
