A breathtakingly beautiful novel. One of the pull quotes describes Anthony Doerr has a way of writing about the world with a scientist's eye but a poet's soul and I found this to be so true. Truly a gem to read from start to finish and a novel that felt fresh and imaginative despite covering a well-covered period of history.
