Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead by Brené Brown
5.0
Last fall, I decided to finally get on the Brené Brown train that so many of my favorite women had been on for so long, but I also wanted to read with some of them/embolden others to get on. I started a group on goodreads, got some commitments, made a schedule, and posted my thoughts.
Spoiler alert, no one joined in.
I was late posting the next month, then the next (Advent was maybe not the ideal time to get this rolling) until I just gave up. Somewhat ironically, I felt ashamed—that I had not kept up, and that my friends thought my book club was actually really lame and just didn't want to say so, that I couldn't even apply the shame resiliency strategies in the book to the book club! #shamespiral
Reading this book by myself over the course of a really hectic period of my life (as though I'm ever not hectic) turned out to actually be really successful.
I chose this photo to represent how many different times and places I carried this book through (that's an airport gate area side table and a giant cold brew); my frenzy underscored a lot of Dr. Brown's points.
I learned a lot. I cried a lot. I scribbled a lot. I posted quotations on Facebook a lot. I scraped up the courage to have some important conversations with important people in my life.
If you don't believe you're ready for that, read this book anyway. You are so powerful and you are so beloved and I can only say that to you because I am learning that it's true about me, too.
