Brotopia: Breaking Up the Boys' Club of Silicon Valley by Emily Chang

3.0

I liked everything that had to do with analysing how the industry became so hostile against women, but for a book that deals so much with unconscious bias it doesn't really question anything else about the industry. It seems like the only problem is the fact that it's not women-friendly when that's only ONE of its problems. The author praises Facebook (and Zuckerberg and Sandberg) several times throughout the book as if Facebook weren't an evil company. It sometimes perpetuates myths about the industry; for example, the author says that in companies like Netflix people can choose how many days of holidays they can have, and she presents this as a positive thing, when the data shows that people just take zero days in those cases. The author also agrees that crunching is sometimes necessary.
