An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn

3.0

“Be mine right now. Be mine forever. I'll give you anything you want. All I want in return is you.”

Okay so I loved Anthony's story so much and was looking forward to this one but it literally was just Cinderella. Sophie has a background that makes her unsuitable for the ton... and an evil stepmother who wants nothing to do with her like at all. She makes it clear from the start how much she dislikes her and then it follows the typical Cinderella pattern. I struggled to get into this story a lot. I felt like it drug on so badly. I wasn't a fan of Benedict for most of the book because he came across as incredibly manipulative to me. I realize that other people might have a different experience but I just couldn't get behind the way he handled things with Sophie, simply because of the class distinction.
I really think it was nice to have a book in the series that highlights that difference between the members of the ton and the serving class. I think it was interesting to see how differently the women of the ton are treated compared to the help. I think that was the dynamic that made this story interesting, because Sophie was able to point out these distinctions and she isn't afraid to speak her mind about it. However, my favorite character is still Mama Bridgerton. I just want to say that she increased my love for her in this one because we got a whole other side of her and it was beautiful! I just wish the rest of the book had been as entertaining as the last few chapters were.
