The Gods Below by Andrea Stewart

2.0

I would like to thank Edelweiss and Orbit for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Unfortunately this just wasn't for me. Definitely one of the more ambitious and unique fantasy worlds i'd read lately, but the narrative lacked a certain vibrancy that made most of this a tough one to get through. From start to finish The Gods Below definitely took me a while to read, and i stuck with it, but this narrative unfolded in a way that just didn't have the charismatic energy necessary for a multi-pov reading experience.

I did enjoy the first half a lot more, because i found the world and magic fascinating...but my heart wasn't into this because i wasn't really rooting for anyone, except for Thassir. I thought he was the most compelling character because, in a weird way, the way he showed he cared about what he cared about in the hot two sentences he was on page, made more of an impact on me than whatever Hakara and Rasha and Mull and Sheuan got up to throughout the entire book.

I'd be curious to know how the rest of this series pans out in the future, but for now i think i'm alright with what i know.
