I have thoroughly enjoyed the Riverbend series by Denise Hunter. I was under the impression that book three in the series, Harvest Moon, was the final installment, so when I heard that Hunter was releasing a fourth book I jumped for joy and then immediately went to NetGalley to claim a copy. Wildflower Falls is a great Contemporary Romance. I really enjoyed every second of this highly engaging read. As with the first three stories, I very much enjoyed being back in the small-town community of Riverbend. I wish it were a real place so I could visit. The people are so heartwarming and accepting and protective, and the town itself seems so quaint and beautiful. Characters are great, as per the norm for a Hunter novel. I really felt for Charlotte and the precarious situation she is placed in for about three quarters of the story. She really is an illustration of that saying between a rock and a hard place. It didn’t seem like she had very good options, as anything she did would hurt someone’s feelings. Yikes! But she handles everything as best she can under the circumstances. What I really love is how the “mature “adults in the story, namely Jeff Robinson, see how difficult Charlotte’s situation is and support her rather than get angry at her. I really gravitated towards the supportive nature of the secondary characters. It’s so refreshing to see characters see things from another’s perspective instead of instantly charging into anger. As far as the main characters go, I loved Gunner and Charlotte. Their chemistry is palpable. I was really rooting for them the whole time. They’re both a little damaged and a little lost. But together, they are a force of support, friendship, and love. I so enjoyed their journey to love! I also appreciated Gunner’s issues with stuff and people. Gunner had something truly awful happen to him when he was little and it traumatized him significantly. So much so, that he became an adult who refuses to put down any roots, has no real friends, and owns only that which can fit on a bag on his motorcycle. While it is true that less is more when it comes to stuff, the same rule shouldn’t apply to people. When you refuse to allow relationships to form because you fear possible loss, you end up alone. Does Gunner come to understand this premise? Well, you’ll just have to purchase a copy of this fantastic story to find out!
Wildflower Falls is another home run from Denise Hunter. This is Contemporary Romance at its finest, and I cannot recommend this book enough. Pick yourself up a copy ASAP!
I received a review copy of this novel in eBook form from the publisher, Thomas Nelson, via NetGalley. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
