Pride and Premeditation by Tirzah Price
4.0
Read- June 2021 for the Whatever-A-Thon
- I know that this is going to seem contradictory because I've given this book four stars and added it to my favourites of the year list but I can't help but me ever so slightly disappointed in this book. This was 100% my most anticipated book of the year, I mean come on a murder mystery retelling of my favourite book of all time? An absolute dream come true, but alas it didn't get that full five stars from me but it was so close to being.
My main complaint was that I felt it was so obvious who the 'villians' of the book were going to be. Using the original 'villians' from the source book felt a bit like a cop out. If you're not at all familiar with the story of Pride and Prejudice then I can imagine that the plot twist of finding out who is the culprit will potentially come as a shock but to me it felt a bit too obvious. I also can't help but wish that this was an adult book instead of YA because I think the story could have improved had it been aimed at a slightly older audience.
I have to say thet Tirzah Price did an excellent job with the characters. Like I've said, Pride and Prejudice is my absolute favourite book and one of my favourite things from that book is how Jane Austen portrays and builds her characters so I was incredibly nervous that Price wouldn't portray the characters like Austen does but she does an excellent job on that front. All of the characters were so true to the original book in mu opinion. I liked Charlotte as a character a whole lot!
Overall, I did really really enjoy this book. I just wish Price had gone down a different path with the 'villians'.
