The Pretty Boy Vs. The Bad Boy by Nicole Dykes
4.0
I had the pleasure of reviewing the Anti Valentine Anthology, where this story was previously released, and I was looking forward to the moment when the author would re-release it, this time the full story, and I have to say, I love it even more than the first time.
The story centers on two racers, Sebastian and Axel, who from the beginning were portrayed by their agents as the good guy and the bad guy, and therefore had to act as such. It seemed that on the outside, they represented him perfectly. Where Sebastian reached his goals without straying out of line, always friendly on and off the track, Axel was reckless and used any means to achieve his. On and off the track.
But no one, except perhaps their closest friends, knew of their struggles. Sebastian knowing that by hiding his sexuality he was only living half a life, and Axel fearing losing everything he had earned for the same reason.
They secretly begin a "relationship" based solely on sex that spanned several years. And the chemistry between them, the drawn they felt was undeniable, but every time as soon as they finished, Axel closed in on himself and they became "enemies" again. But for Sebastian it was getting harder and harder to keep to be in the closet, and as time passed, and their relationship began to become more, the harder it became. Especially since he knew that if he came out, he would lose Axel.
And Axel, poor Axel, his internal struggle was getting harder for him to bear. He didn't want Sebastian to come out of the closet. He knew how selfish that was, but he also knew that it would be the end of their relationship. He would never be as brave as Sebastian, he couldn't lose everything he had won, he couldn't go back to being that poor boy that nobody wanted, but he also knew that Sebastian deserved to live his truth, even if it meant they could never be together again. But then, was everything he earned really worth it if he didn't have Sebastian by his side? He wasn't so sure anymore.
It is an exciting story that shows us how the fear of rejection can affect people, the pain of not being able to be themselves, of always having to live a lie and how when someone offers you a hand and shows you that no matter that whatever happens they will always be there to support you, it can change the course of a lifetime for the better.
It has everything. Speed, heart, emotion, drama, some angst, and just enough hot moments between two people who are made for each other.
I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
