Darkly by Marisha Pessl
5.0
Started and finished Darkly by Marisha Pessl in one day because I was so enraptured by the story. Releasing next Tuesday, you can preorder now or plan to grab your copy to read over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Darkly is a young adult contemporary fiction with a mystery to solve and a dash of what feels like magical realism. Tucked away on a nearly deserted island off the coast of England is the old Darkly factory. What is a Darkly? It’s a game brand by the larger than life creator of Darkly Games, Louisiana Veda. Though her death solidified her legacy, trouble could be brewing for the brand when an unreleased game pops up and has caused a person to go missing.
Seven teenagers from all over the globe are picked for an internship, including Dia from Missouri. Without understanding what they all had in common, or why they’d stand out among the hundreds of thousands of applications, these seven are tasked to solve the mystery of the missing Darkly game and the missing boy.
In a situation where they’re cut off from the world and under strict contracts not to tell a soul what they’re really doing these seven interns must rely on each other to solve the puzzle, but can they even trust each other? A million pounds and the contract rights to one original Darkly game is on the line, as is the reputation of Louisiana Veda and the Darkly brand.
If you loved Ready Player One and/or The Inheritance Games, this ones for you!
Thank you to GetUnderlined and PRH Audio for the gifted copy.
