The Testaments by Margaret Atwood

1.0

I really enjoyed much of the book but I was not awe struck by it. I totally agree about the YA aspect. I did enjoy the Aunt Lydia narrative but not so much the rest. The Daisy character just didn’t pull me along. She was a cosseted young girl who changed character in an implausible way too quickly for me. I could sort of get Agnes but the leaps in storyline and character development were still too dubious. What Bekka did was so so out of the character that had been built up.....also the ..without spoilers...dragging of that person behind a statue bit....all that bit was a bit funny when it shouldn’t have been... a bit cartoon like...The adventure at the end felt rushed and did bother me...and the end was way way to neat. But on a plus point it kept me reading and the writing was lovely
I did enjoy the story and I would recommend it but it wasn’t mind blowing or brilliant. And probably no one will be searching for what happened next with this book, unlike the handmaids tale...because it was sewn up tight...to the point of puckering.
