1.5

One of the sloppiest and hastiest wrap-ups I have ever seen in a book. The male characters are jerk wads who I hate throughout most of the book, and their apologies at the end felt cheesy, stereotypical, and half-hearted at best. Tucked between moments of women being righteously angry at their husbands are moments of subtle sexism that never get addressed. Things like a man saying a saleswoman is so good at her job because she’s “beautiful.” Seriously? There’s also a husband with anger issues who, while he claims to love and care about his wife, won’t ‘let her’ get a job. And though they make up at the end, it was a surface-level apology and make-up that didn’t give ample space to unpack how incredibly toxic he was being. Two stars for cozy small town vibes, which I enjoy, but that’s it. Would not recommend.
