Dear Evan Hansen by Steven Levenson

Dear Evan Hansen,

Today is going to be a good day and here’s why. Because today, no matter what else, today at least... you’re you. No hiding, no lying. Just ... you. And that’s ... that’s enough.

I remember watching a shitty version of this online and immediately falling in love with it. This story broke my heart in so many pieces. This soundtrack was on repeat for months and I refused to move on from it.

This is a story about grief and family and feeling invisible and love and there wasn’t a part of this or a character that I didn’t feel for. Sometimes a piece of fiction helps you heal a part of yourself, whether it’s finding peace in the words that are said or characters that are being portrayed. Obviously I can’t personally relate to this whole story but the story of Evan’s mom hit me so hard that I couldn’t listen to So Big/So Small without sobbing. Waving Through A Window was also a song that spoke to my soul and put my saddest and darkest thoughts into words.

This will forever be one of my favorite musicals and I hope to be lucky one day to watch a non shitty online version of it.

No one should be forgotten or just disappear as if they don’t matter and today WILL be a good day because today you are you and that IS enough!
