Wow. I was definitely intimidated by the length of the book, and at times I got impatient because I just wanted to see what happened in the end but everything was very transfixing and interesting and I really enjoyed reading it. I got so invested in the characters and loved the style of the book where we got to learn about their histories and then see how they interacted with each other. It really paints a picture of the fine balance between hope and despair, and was such an emotional book. My favourite thing about it was the characters, and you got to know every character as a person and not just how they fit in the storyline. All the side characters were so interesting and complicated which really elevated the book, and I love the roles that they played in the book and through the structure of the book. I'm glad I got to use my knowledge of Partition but the human element and impact was portrayed so intimately I guess and I could really understand and see the struggles and the hopelessness. A beautiful book.
'Where humans were concerned, the only emotion that made sense was wonder, at their ability to endure; and sorrow, for the hopelessness of it all.'
