Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare
5.0
I'm writing down a couple thoughts, still in absolute shock at the complete shit show that happened at the end of this book.
Even more shock, I honestly did not expect to love this book so much as to 5-star it after the overly long and disappointing Lady Midnight, but here we are.
The reason ,well the main one really, that I'm 5-starring this book is because everything that happened in it felt organic. The plot advancement, the character building, the introduction of new character, everything felt very organic and not forced like Lady Midnight felt most of the time.
There is a reason behind Lord of Shadows having 700 pages, barely any chapter felt like a filler chapter or like there had been any unnecessary additions, again unlike with Lady Midnight.
A couple thoughts:
. Tiberius having autism was something that I never even considered or thought of, until Kit said it and I was like OH WOW that actually makes a lot of sense, and I just needed a character to say those words to me in order to fully grasp it.
. Julian's entire existence in this book was absolutely brilliant, I didn't see it much in Lady Midnight, but this book really built him up as this charming, manipulation master (in a good way) and someone whose plans for every situation are absolutely brilliant, also as someone who literally has a plan for Everything lol.
. The forbidden love plot this series is going with is something that I am not completely sure how I feel about it, like I can totally see Emma and Julian being together and it makes more sense than them just being platonic, but like there must be some other way for the parabatai thing to end that's not exile or getting stripped of your runes.
The entire idea behind the exile thing just does not make a lot of sense to me, they want to be forced apart, in order for their bond to weaken, so that they'd get more time to be lovers before the parabatai curse turns them into crazy people? How exactly does that make sense?
. I really enjoyed the involvement of our guys and gal from The Mortal Instruments, even if at times I found it to be a bit irritating, cause it feels like Cassandra Clare doesn't think the cast of characters in The Dark Artifices can hold their own ground, and so they need the popular cast back.
. What exactly are The Dark Artifices? Like are they a thing or a group of people?
The Mortal Instruments series was named after the actual Mortal Instruments, meanwhile there is no explanation behind the name of this series, unless I'm missing something or my English is not as good as I thought it had been lol.
. This book is named after the actual Lord of Shadows, The Unseelie King. But like... He barely showed up in like 3 chapters, why is the book named after him?
. Was anybody else just dying for Kit and Ty to just share a kiss and admit their feelings to each other or was it just me? Cassie Clare is such a tease.
. Is Cassie Clare teasing a throuple with Cristina, Mark and Kieran? Cause this is totally not the series for that kind of thing to happen in. It would just not make sense that all three of them have feelings for one another, and no choosing ceremony happens.
.I was completely shocked at the revelation that Diana is a transgender woman. Like I did not see that coming even if it smacked me in the face.
I wonder now if her secret is gonna come out now, and I am kinda curious to see how The Clave would react to such news.
Also the all-mighty Gwyn falling for her was so cute and I loved everything about it.
. Tiberius is an absolute gem, I absolutely loved literally everything he has said and done in this book, he's slowly but surely becoming my favorite character in the Shadowhunter world.
Totally brilliant, unique and the way he expresses himself and reacts to the world around him, like I just need him and Kit to get together and open up a private detective office and just do their thing after this.
. Finally, what the hell was that shit show in the last chapter?! Literally everything fell apart and shit happened in the worst way possible.
Why introduce Annabel, make us like her and feel bad for her, then literally turn her into this crazy unstable person?
Why kill off Robert Lightwood? Just to ruin Emma and Julian's lives and complicate everything even more?
Why kill off Livvy? When you had a completely useless character ,Drusilla, who could've gotten killed instead and nobody would've felt much sadness about it.
Now Ty is gonna completely fall apart, and the Blackthorns actually ended up losing a pretty important and wonderful member of their family..
Did I absolutely enjoy the shit show? Totally, but that's not the point.
