The House Between Tides by Sarah Maine

5.0

I really enjoyed [b:The House Between Tides|25814507|The House Between Tides|Sarah Maine|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1469968851l/25814507._SY75_.jpg|45671195] by [a:Sarah Maine|7707883|Sarah Maine|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1468234624p2/7707883.jpg]! I mean what isn't to love. The story takes place along two timelines (my favorite) and in the Scottish Highlands & Islands (favorite again). It includes a love story, long buried bones that are discovered (and nobody knows who they belong to), redemption and secrets galore.

The writing is beautiful.

One timeline (the modern timeline) tells the story of Hetty. She is the last living heir to the famous artist Theo Blake and inherits his mansion Muirlan House, built by his wealth father and the land it sits on Scotland. She is excited to turn int into a hotel and retreat (the land includes a bird sanctuary). However, she meets James Cameron, who after checking out the house -says it is not stable and will collapse. He also has secrets that she is set to discover.

The other timeline is that of Theo Blake. An artist - who 20 years before painted his most famous painting and spends the subsequent years trying to regain he early passion that led to that painting. He brings his new wife, Beatrice, who loves her husband, but when they move to Muirlan House from Edinburgh, she finds him slipping away from her.

I cannot do this book justice! It is beautiful - what inspired Theo with his first painting; why is restless, how does Beatrice handle the remoteness of her new home and the remoteness of her new husband. How does Hetty figure out the mystery of the bones.

Love how it all comes together - I am a fan of Sarah Maine and can't wait to read more of her books!
