Motherthing is a thought-provoking, unique story where we slowly follow Abby Lamb's descent into madness after the death of her mother-in-law. This book was a lot of things - it was smart, funny, scary, gruesome, and even a little sad at times. It becomes clear pretty quickly that Abby is a very unreliable narrator, which leaves a lot of the events that occur in this story unclear if they really happened or not; Was Laura really haunting them? Did Laura actually take her own life or did Ralph murder her? Did Abby really kill Janet and feed her to Ralph? Did the normal dialogue vs. scripted scenes show what was real vs. what wasn't? I think these are all valid questions that can be left up to the interpretation of the reader, and for me the ambiguity of it all is what makes it so much fun to read. This was a crazy ride and I loved it!
