Thunderclap: From the Sunday Times Bestselling Author of On Chapel Sands by Laura Cumming

(I may be biased because Carel Fabritius is my favourite artist)
This book was beautifully constructed. The sheer amount of effort that went into searching for a man who was almost impossible to find is one thing, but being able to utilise that information in a concise way that felt respectful as well as honest really tells that Laura knows her craft.
I love the real life anecdotes Laura added, really adding to the fact that despite the fact these Duth painters lived so many centuries before us, we are all still just people who see and appreciate art.
This book truly captivated me, the same way Carel Fabritius' art work did and i annotated as I went along. I consumed this book within 2 days which is a real incredible feat for a non-fiction book which is both art history as well as a memoir.
I truly appreciate having a clearer understanding of other Dutch painters, such as Rembrandt and Vermeer as well as learning a timeline of Carel Fabritius' life as best as possible.
I will be thinking about this book for a very long time.
