Starter Villain by John Scalzi

4.0

It’s my turn on the Starter Villain blog tour! Let me introduce you to one of the most chaotic books I’ve ever had the joy of reading

For starters, there’s cats but not just any cats, spy cats who are incredibly intelligent and are computer trained, even without thumbs! There’s also talking dolphins that have the most vulgar language currently in the midst of a labour strike who are very amusing to read about. As you can probably already tell, this book makes for a very unique read

The main character is great to follow purely because you can feel how overwhelmed he is with the whole situation, he’s completely out of his depth and he’s just trying his best to survive this very bizarre turn of events. The sarcasm and the banter used as an almost coping mechanism is done so well and adds for some laughs

If the typing cats hasn’t sold this to you then there’s also deaths, explosive scenes, multiple assassination attempts and a boat named after Jennifer Lawrence, all incorporated into mysterious main plot line amongst other villainous villains

It’s highly entertaining with a well thought out ending for the main character, it’s relatively short so it makes for a purrfect palette cleanser.

Thanks for sending me a finished copy to review @blackcrow_pr @panmacmillan
