Motherhood by Sheila Heti
2.0
Motherhood is the author’s diary of everything relating to the decision of whether or not to have children. It spans years and is deeply personal, while also exploring the expectations placed on women in general.
The topic and message: super important. The way the topic is explored and the message conveyed: not my thing at all. There’s so many things I dislike, like asking questions from dice (?), analyzing dreams and fortune tellings and introducing the reader to random people who don’t reappear in the book. But, I can definitely see why Motherhood is an important book for many.
“This book is a boundary I’m erecting between myself and the reality of a child. Perhaps what I’m trying to do in writing this is to build a raft that will carry me just so long and so far that my questions can no longer be asked.”
